Governor Roy Cooper Endorses Ronnie Chatterji for Treasurer
Durham NC: Governor Roy Cooper has endorsed Ronnie Chatterji in his historic race for State Treasurer. In doing so, he released the following statement:
"North Carolina needs a Treasurer who understands how to make smart investments and grow our economy. Ronnie has the right skills and temperament to do one of the most important jobs in state government. I have worked with Ronnie on my Entrepreneurial Council and he is an innovative, data-driven leader who will put what he knows to work for our great state. As an educator and an economist, he is the partner I need to protect pensions and improve health care for all our state employees. I believe in him and fully endorse his candidacy. Just like his campaign ad says, Ronnie is the “nerd we need!”
In response to Governor Cooper’s endorsement, Ronnie stated, “It is an honor to have the support and trust of Governor Cooper. As Treasurer, I will work with the Governor and the entire Council of State to invest in North Carolina’s future. Working as a team, we can protect retirement pensions, bring down the cost of health care and bring back North Carolina’s economy stronger than ever before.”
Ronnie Chatterji is a husband, father of three and distinguished professor at Duke University. Ronnie served as a Senior Economist at the White House Council of Economic Advisers and as an appointee of Governor Cooper on the Governor’s Entrepreneurial Council and the NC First Commission. He secured the Democratic Nomination for Treasurer without a runoff on March 3rd, with over 410,000 votes. If elected, he will be the first Asian American elected to a statewide office in North Carolina history.
